I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the Wheel of the Year Guides I’ve been creating for the past three years.  I love doing them because I learn a lot every time, but they really are a lot of work.   My feeling when I started is that they were high effort enough that I should charge for them, and a few people seemed to agree that they were valuable enough to pay for them. It’s still my dream to find ways to earn enough from writing, artwork, and ritual leading that I don’t need to have a day job. But for now I’ve realized that I’m more interested in seeing more people engage with my work and receive the Jewish Wheel of the Year Guides than I am in convincing people they should pay for them.

That’s why I’ve decided that I’m going to offer them for free for 5771.

No strings attached.  If I decide  to bring back the subscription cost in 5772, it will be as opt-in only.   No one will be roped, coerced, or tricked into paying for something that was originally a gift.   Any recent subscribers or subscribers who recent renewed will have their costs refunded.  If your subscription renews during the year — then I’ll refund it then.

I’m hoping by increasing the number of subscribers, it will increase engagement with the content as well.  This, I think will be a benefit for everyone.  You can learn more on the Wheel of the Year Guides page, or check out this sample.   The sample shows last year’s tarot themed exploration of the Jewish wheel of the year.  Based on feedback from subscribers and website readers, we’ll be using the 12 Tribes to explore the Jewish wheel of the year in 5771.

Hey, thanks, looks like I'm already subbed and won't need to renew.
You do a great job with these.

  4. Madeline says:

Thank you for the gift. Can I suggest a button on your site to make a voluntary donation?

I read somewhere in the last few months about the differences between Jewish synagogues which utilize dues and Churches that are based on donation. I am somewhat curious about the origin of these traditions. But maybe the donation method is a better fit here to support the good work you do.

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually hadn't considered it for the Wheel of the Year Guides, but that makes a lot of sense. Maybe I will give more thought to donation options. I wonder if others would find the idea amenable
