Fragments of a Dream Tarot

A few years ago I came across an artist by the name of Marvin Hill. He created these extraordinary block prints. I was so moved, that I had to purchase something. I fell in love with a series he did of about 12 prints called, “Fragments of a Dream Tarot.” I couldn’t afford all 12, so Marvin suggested I pick 6 that I liked and he would frame and send them to me.

We began to discuss his work which was very mystical and shamanistic. I asked if he ever considered doing a full tarot deck and he said no, the traditional Tarot just didn’t speak to him. I explained that there were many meditation and oracle decks that do not follow the format of traditional Tarot, and that I felt his would be a beautiful deck of this type.

Marvin passed away last year. His wife has continued his work, and recently a friend pointed out to me that there was an entire Tarot deck on Marvin’s website. When I checked the site I saw an explanation of the deck that recalled my conversation with him. Whether or not Marvin remembered our meeting, I surely do.

If you are looking for astonishing artwork, or just want to see this man’s final visions, http://www.marvinhill.com/8_tarot.html. The cards I have are “Infinite River”, “The King Sees the Faraway Past”, “Nine Serpents”, “Protector”, “Water that Does Not Wet the Hands”, “The Wind Whistles Through My Branches.”
