Eighth Day of Chanukah

“On the seventh day YHWH rested. . . .”

But on Chanukah, the miracle lasted for eight days. It lasted longer than creating the universe and all its inhabitants? Granted, making oil last for eight days seems far less complex than the act of creation. But still, it lasted eight days. A day longer than creation. Does humanity really need such a reminder of the ongoing work of creation?

What do you think?

Sixth Day of Chanukah

Six is balance and harmony. The Shield or Star of David (Mogen David) — has six points. There are six days of creation before we rest.

Fourth Day of Chanukah

Four is a great number for Jewish women. We have four matriarchs and four corresponding phases of the moon. That’s right – four. The holiday of the dark moon, Rosh Chodesh, was given to Jewish women as a gift for their refusal to hand over their gold to create the golden calf at Mount Sinai.

The lives of the three patriarchs and four matriarchs create the story of the five books of the Torah.

Light the fourth candle and remember each of the Hebrew matriarchs.
