Tu B’Shevat Seder

As part of my project for the first level of Kohenet training, I created a Tu B’Shevat seder. I didn’t publish it last year because I’m still not sure how in love with it I am. I think I’m going to completely re-do this at some point, but I realized that if I share — you all might provide feedback on ways to improve it.

Here are several free Tu b’Shevat resources to explore, including my own.

Tu B’Shevat begins at sundown on February 8th, 2009.

Learn more about the month of Shevat and how Tu B’Shevat fits in.

Animating the Spirit of Democracy

As many of you may know I took part in a ritual called “Animating the Spirit of Democracy” on January 19, 2009.  The idea was to allow the local earth-based and Pagan communities to bless the city and President Obama’s administration as a collective community.  I was honored to be invited to give a blessing.

I posted the text of my blessing last week, but now there is a video.

Shevat: Buckets of Possibilities

rebekah-at-well

(excerpt from Shevat Rosh Chodesh Guide)

Bucket, bucket, who’s got a bucket?  A bucket (d’li)?  That’s the astrological symbol for the month?  How unglamourous is that?  Not that a set of scales is glamourous, but it’s not a bucket. But the truth is that buckets, vessels that carry water, play an important role in Torah. A bucket on it’s own is useless, too.  There must be a water carrier for the bucket to serve it’s role in the world.

Rebeka, wife of Issac and mother of Yisrael, is one of the most famous water carriers in the bible. We first meet Rebeka in Gen 24:16-22 when she is drawing water for her sheep and for Abraham’s servant. Her willingness to work as a water carrier is one of the criteria the servant sets for the women he will bring home to Issac as a bride. (Gen 24:14)

Blessing of Washington, DC for the Inuauguration of Barack Obama

As delivered at the Jefferson Memorial on January 19th, 2009 in Washington, DC,  at “Animating the Spirit of Democracy with a Ritual of Unity and Blessing

That's me getting my blessing on!

That's me getting my blessing on!

I love Washington, DC.  These are not words you hear very often.  There are bumper stickers that say, I “heart” New York, but not DC.  I love Washington, DC.  This is a beautiful city. She is green and vibrant. She sings the subtle harmonies of jazz and the exuberant tones of go-go. She is Ben’s Chili bowl and Michel Richard’s Citronelle.  She may never be trendy, but  she is beautiful. She has been my home for the past 12 years, and is now the home of the Obama family. But, those of us who live in this city are often very aware that the world is focused on us, and usually not with thoughts of love and praise. This is why today I ask you to join me in blessing the spirit of our city, the nation’s city, Washington, DC.

Shaddai is a name my tradition uses when calling on the nurturing, creatix energy of the Divine. Shaddai is usually translated as God of the Mountains, but it is clearly related to “shaddayim,” the Hebrew word for breasts. It is a mother name. It is a name we use to tap into the most primal connection between mother and child. Shaddai can be nurturer or destroyer. Today I ask for the blessing of Shaddai on this city and those who live here.

May the Eternal bless you and keep you a vibrant and open city.

May the Eternal shine the Divine faces on you and show you grace that you may be a loving home for our new president and his family.

May the Eternal shine the Divine faces on you, and grant you wholeness and peace that you may support the work of tikkun hanefesh, repairing of the soul, that our country so badly needs.

President Obama, welcome to Washington.  May this city embrace and support you and your family on this journey. Blessed Be and Amen.

Rosh Chodesh / Wheel of the Year Guides

I realized while prepping the Shevat Rosh Chodesh Guide that while the guide is chock-full of great information about the month, there is nothing about Rosh Chodesh!  Very exciting, but now the guides also a feature a “Learn More” section with handy links to information about Rosh Chodesh, starting and running a Rosh Chodesh group, and several rituals.  The link to my Rosh Chodesh ritual structure that I developed for my Rosh Chodesh group is also included as a special benefit to subscribers.

Beginning this month you also can  purchase just a single guide for $5, if you aren’t ready for the $36/year subscription price.  And, as always, there is a full sample guide that you can see on Wheel of the Year Guides page.  It’s always a few months old, but is a good example of what you’ll receive.

Services & About Me

I’ve recently updated the “Priestessing Services” page with more detail and a couple of new services.

I’ve also restructured and updated the “About Me” page.

I’d love any feedback or comments you all may have on these updates!
